BRONZE LOPBURI STYLE BUDDHA 18TH CENTURY THAILAND

The Lopburi style refers to a style of Buddhist sculptures and architectures found in the central, east and northeast regions of Thailand during the 7th to 13th century ad.

Statues of Buddha are known for their symmetry and well-proportioned features, usually shown in seated position with a calm and meditative expression.

This Buddha is seated with legs crossed and showing the bhumispharsa mudra, is dressed in simple robe and no jewellery.

The face is done with very realistic features, full lips, downcast eyes and evenly shaped eyebrows, elongated earlobes frame the face.

The hair is accentuated by a hairline of small curls, the rest of the hair created by lines.

The ushnisha is formed by a large flaming jewel.
