Porcelain figure of Bodhisattva of compassion Guanyin or Avalokiteshvara, here seated on a double reverse lotus flower placed on an open-work round base with three feet. The Bodhisattva is dressed in a flowy robe, a flower decorates the chest. Guanyin is holding a scroll in her hands resting in her lap. Her oval face has a benevolent expression with a gentle smile, the eyes downcast. Often represented as androgynous or genderless, in China Guanyin became increasingly assigned to the female gender.
