Surya is the God of Sun or the personification of the sun.
He is shown in his distinctive iconography as he is usually shown in a chariot pulled by his seven horses here represented by seven small horses in front of the square expansive base.
The Sun God sits upon a lotus throne on the base with his legs crossed. A smaller adorant figure is seated in front of him with hands in prayer position. This could be a representation of simply an adorant or maybe Aruna, who is said to be his chariot driver. Surya is holding two lotus flowers in his hands.
He is smiling and his eyes are open. The head is decorated with a large conical headpiece and backed by a circular aureola.
Surya represents the source of light and life and empowers us to combat ignorance and darkness with the brightness of the sun.
