RARE BHAIRABA WITH CONSORT

Bronze gilt

Nepal , 17th century

Dimensions: Height 13 cm Width 11 cm Depth 7 cm

Weight: 923 grams

A depiction of a four-armed deity, possibly Bhairaba, kneeling on one leg while the other leg is bent, sitting close to the ground. He is sitting on a floral base with small adorants to his feet. Three arms are spread to the sides, one is raised in the front and all are forming mudras. A consort is hugging him from the front, holding ritual objects and with her legs wrapped around the god's hips. The wrathful emanation is wearing long garlands with severed heads and skulls, a scarf is billowing down besides him. His face with the third eye is gazing upwards, the crown decorated with skulls and a celestial moon and sun in the center. The statue is hollow, the back is kept simply without details.
