This intricately carved wooden sculpture depicts a seated deity, positioned within an architectural framework comprising ornate pillars and an elaborately detailed lintel.

The central figure, portrayed in a regal and poised posture, is adorned with a tall crown, heavy jewelry, and a decorative halo-like back element.

The deity is seated atop a stylized bird, which closely resembles a peacock—Kartikeya's traditional vahana (vehicle).

Kartikeya, as the god of war, is often depicted in a regal seated posture holding symbolic objects such as a spear (vel) or a lotus-like item, as seen here.

Kartikeya is a prominent deity in Hinduism, particularly revered in Nepal. His association with the peacock as a vehicle is a critical identifying factor.

The deity has a lotus on the left shoulder, while the hands had most probably held the bridle of the peacock.

The Peacock symbolizes divine power or transport.

The carving retains remnants of its original polychrome, which would have enhanced its intricate details.

This piece likely served as a devotional sculpture, possibly part of a shrine or temple portal. The architectural framework emphasizes its sacred role, framing the deity in a manner that mirrors temple entrances in Newar traditions.

The artistic style reflects the craftsmanship of the medieval woodcarvers of the Kathmandu Valley, renowned for their skill in temple construction and decoration.

The sculpture shows signs of age and weathering, with areas of erosion and loss of polychrome. However, the overall form and expressive details remain intact, retaining the piece's visual and cultural significance.
